Joint Ideas for magazine front cover
Images: when taking the images we have consider about the age gap for our target audiences and if the images will be appropriate, we dont want to exaggerate certain concepts that will offend some people. When taking our images we also have to think about the setting if they would suit the magazine if not we had to make sure we had the tool (Photoshop) to able to edit them so they didnt look out of place.
Colour scheme: The colour scheme chosen for our magazine has to match our genre so we have decided to take these colours into consideration red- this connotes passion and danger which is what happens in most action films, it creates excitement, black- connotes mystery this is to add curiosity to the film so that the target audience stays engaged into the trailer, orange/yellow- these are the colours of fire and explosion it can also connote happiness as there are eventful and happy scenes in tge film/trailer.
Text(language): we may use a range fonts for our production piece, we want fonts that have the action vibe to it to link with our trailer genre we may even carry the font used for our name of the film to the film magazine. other fonts were used to stand out to the target audience if it was something that they should have read and others were used to make text look neat on the magazine pages.
Setting of images: we are going explore a range of local areas closest to us, we will see what areas has the potential to look like an action background.we will try our best to make our models do the typical poses for a magazine shoot and we used props as well to make the images seem more professional and actioned style. Afterwards we then had to cut around the background and find a new setting on the internet so that it would link to the genre of the magazine.
Layout of film magazine
The layout of the magazine, will be similiar to magazines on shelves now. It is important that we meet the codes and conventions of a typical film magazine, but interpret our own ideas. Ideas for our layout will include, the masthead at the top, with the image in the centre of the page, and the text around the sides of the images. Using a simple design will allow to us be more creative with the content rather than focusing on how it would be layed out.

How are films funded?
Studios - The Hollywood Studios (Universal, Paramount etc) finance the movies with their own cash, bank loans, and through investment from a number of wealthy parties, entrepreneurs or investment specialists. These types are usually multi-billionaires who may be as interested in the glamour of the movie industry as they are in the profits.
Production Companies - some production companies will front the cash to make a movie, because they either have an advanced deal or believe they will be able to sell the movie to a distributor who will take direct profits from cinema ticket sales.
Other ways include:
National Funding (The Film Council in the UK), Tax Based Incentives, Loans, Pre-Sales, as per Capitol Films, who will provide finance for a film based on the sales potential, cast and principal crew, because they will recoup their money by selling the film worldwide to cinema and DVD distributors.
Images related to our genre
These images represent action in a movie, and when taking our pictures we will try and portray the same thing. Whilst taking our images, we need to understand the mise-en-scene, the costumes, the lighting and any props we need to use to additionally show the genre as best we can. We will use different angles, to show high power, and low power, and then add effects, such as dramatic colours, to highlight the image to highlight the image even further.
Film names, fonts and connotations
How to visually get the name of the film stuck in the minds of our target audience's?
Fonts- must eye catching, easy to read, bold and in your face.
Colour- colours that connote action, both masculinity and femininity, mystery, passion and danger.
Logo- create something unique so that audiences would be able to recognize it straight away.

They occasionally have a resourceful character struggling against incredible odds such as, life-threatening situations, an evil villain, and/or being chased in several ways of transportation which could be a car, bus etc, with victory achieved at the end after difficult physical efforts and violence.Story and character development are generally secondary to explosions, fist fights, gunplay and car chases.

This film magazine is appealing to its audience, by the image being in the centre of the page, being close up, to attract attention. The background is white, which connotes, purity and freshness, and the gold text connotes luxury and wealth. The features are on the left hand side of the magazine, which is where the audience would next look at, after gazing at the image. This is something that we are going to take into consideration, so the magazine appeals to the audience. A puff has been chosen here to advertise a competition with a prize, which is also something that we are going to do, to follow the conventions.

Intial thoughts for film trailer
We will still carry out more research on what type of theme song we would like for our film trailer, when we choose the right sound we may edit them at the beginning or middle of the trailer with a dramatic and tense ending this would create curiosity and make them skip a heartbeat. The theme song is always there to create tension, mystery and passion for action film lovers, these audio clips off YouTube are just the beginning draft to what type of melody we are searching for.
Images
It is important that the actors emphasise the genre so it is appealing to the audience. For example; if that is a good looking female or male, than this would sell the film, as action comes across with the powerful male or female as the main character. The actors would have to be the right sort of people to fit the film trailer, and the right age. In finding actors, we will take into consideration all of these things.
Methods of distribution analysis
I have created a mind map on BUBBL we feel that this is a creative way of presenting the channels we would like to view our trailer on, the mind map contains the chosen channels in a variety of colours we hope for people that view of our blog the colours would attract and draw them in so they can read the post of why we choose this channel and they may check it out to see our action trailer.
BBC 1- This is one of the first existing channels in Britain and is accessed by near enough everyone, they advertise many TV shows which would increasing their viewing rates so there would be wide range of people consuming this channel, so no matter what the intended target audience will have a chance of viewing the trailer.
BBC 3- This is BBC 1 sister channels, they view a lot hit comedy shows after the 9:00pm water shed may teens watch this channel so they would have to opputnity to see out trailer. BBC 2 is also another one of the sister channels for BBC 1 they contain older viewers which may have some that would be interested in out action trailer, we would likep our film to be promoted with different age groups.
The music channerls MTV/+, VH1, The Box and MTV News show, they are always promoting new films and trailers out. For instance the news show always contain a segment where they initially promote all the new films out there and give their positive opinions. These music channels would be really relevant to air our trailer because all target adiences like listening to music and view these channels day to day and if they were to see this they would also spread it out through word of mouth.
Channel 4, E4/+, More 4 these channels view a lot movies from time-to-time this would be ideal to show our trailer because it would just be film based and a perfect chance for our traget audience to see this so they encouraged to watch the film as they might it must be a good film to be aired on such popular channels.

Overall synopsis of film
We have decided to call our film eXploit. The name we have chosen implies an action thriller idea and sounds exciting for the audience. It is also both striking and tragic. This name should create a story for itself for instance for audiences who haven't seen the trailer but heard of the film through social interaction, it would stick into their heads as to why its called EXPLOIT, what happens in the movie, it creates a realization that in most action films a lot of exploitation happens in the story line thus creating action sequences, it promotes the trailer because the name speaks for itself. This would show target audiences that the action genre is balance of happiness, tragedy, brutality we hope to shows our in-sight of these elements in our trailer but following the conventions of an action film trailer to make it look as professional as possible.

Ideas for magazine front cover
These two images relate to the ideas we are looking at for our magazine. It is important that we meet the same codes and conventions of these action magazine front cover. Both of them reveal action, by using the same layout, with the image in the middle with one colour with a fade throughout the front cover. This is something that we might take into consideration for our magazine. The text is also across the front of the cover, in bold, in a light colour to highlight the background colour and the other peices of text.
Codes and conventions of the genre
Codes and conventions of a action film trailer.
- Loud music (explosions)
- Fast upbeat noises
- Minor injuries (blood)
- Action sequence montage to emphasise the storyline
Looking at other film trailers and magazine front covers for action films, has allowed us to understand what images, colours, and effects you have to use to appeal to your target audience. We have looked at different magazines, and annotated them, which shows us bright and effective colours, the use of dramatic images such as big explosions, and the use of camera angles, so a low angle to highlight the person in the image on the front cover, is something that we need to look at for our magazine front cover and trailer.
Age classification
The age classification for our film trailer would be 12 and upwards. The British Board of Film Classification quotes,
'Violence: Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual justification.'
This appeals to our film as it would be appropiate to our target audience, and the limit we can go to putting things into our film trailer. With the genre of the film trailer being action, violence is important into the extent of the violence in the film.
Methods of distribution
Where in the media including web 2.0 might they find out about your film? This would include social networking side.
- We would set up a twitter account, so the general public would be able to follow news and updates about the film.
- We would also put our trailer onto YouTube, as this is a global company, they can rate and comment on what they like and dislike.
On we have set up a twitter account, to update any feedback to the audience, and to then publish our trailer step by step onto the account. This will allow the consumers to watch our trailer and then analyse it.
Response from feedback:
'This is good - what reasons do you have for choosing these platforms?'
I would choose these platforms due to YouTube being the most successful social networking site, uploading many video per second of every day. The trailer would have a better response from uploading the video to YouTube allowing more people to view it.
Twitter, again a form of We Media, is a successful site in 'tweeting' to other media consumers. In terms of word of mouth, twitter would be the best way to 'put it out there.'
Background of genre & genre research
We have decided to choose action as our genre for our trailer/film.
A example of an action film poster of which we will follow the genre's conventions for our own film poster.
Background of genre:
Action films usually include high energy, big-budget physical stunts and chases, possibly with rescues, battles, fights, escapes, destructive crises (floods, explosions, natural disasters, fires, etc.), non-stop motion, spectacular rhythm and pacing, and adventurous, often two-dimensional 'good-guy' heroes battling 'bad guys' - all designed for pure audience escapism. Includes the James Bond 'fantasy' spy/espionage series, martial arts films, and so-called 'blaxploitation' films.
In 1920's and 1930's action films were often reffered to as 'swashbuckling' adventure films. In the 1940's and 1950's saw action in the form of war and cowboy movies.
The sub-genre, action comedy, became a popular trend in the 1980s when actors who were known for their background in comedy such as Eddie Murphy, began to take roles in action films. The action scenes within the genre are generally lighthearted and rarely involve death or serious injury.
Methods of distribution research
To advertise our film, we would set up a twitter account so the general public would be able to follow news and updates about the film.
We would also advertise our film trailer on YouTube, again for the general public to view and hit, and the film trailer be known on a global level. Doing this will develop peoples awareness, this also gives them the opportunity to rate the film trailer, and comment their opinions.
Many films have a website including our trailer, although making a website homepage is one of our ancillary task, we have chosen not to produce one.
Defining your audience
- Age: Range from the age of 15 to 40. We have chosen this age range because if we went any lower that would be in appropriate as parents are far more overprotective and we wouldn't want to lose audiences. But the starting age from 15 assures people that its not to appalling to watch, that it contains the ingredients to make it a suitable trailer to watch.
- Sex: aimed at both genders, but would mostly attract males attention. The action genre is more directed towards the male audience, as there is a lot violence, big explosion and hot female icon these draw the male attention to watch the film. So we will have to base our research on those elements that we would need to make a good action trailer.
- Education: Will be shown during school holidays, around July, August and weekends, as in England this is when people are mostly on holiday. This is when a lot people will be able to have access to the cinema without any obstacles distracting them from going to watch the film.
- Film tastes: Interested in action movies, which consists of adventures and loudness which attention grabs.
- Music tastes: Fast, upbeat music which is interesting for the audience and adds tension.
- Social class:C1 to below, these people in that social class would have more spare time go watch films, as they wont be too busy, they have more flexibility than a person who's class is A or B.
